Vassilios Papadopoulos, executive director and chief scientific officer of the Research Institute of McGill University Health Centre in Montreal, has been named dean of the USC School of Pharmacy, effective October 1, 2016. The innovative leader has published over 300 papers, holds numerous patents and serves on many national and international advisory committees.
The USC chapter of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS) presents this daylong research symposium in August each year, enabling students to engage with leading scientific experts in a collegial setting. The 2016 event attracted more than 200 participants including students, faculty members and scientists from industry and the academy. Topics included metabolic disorders and aging, aging with HIV, aging acceleration in cancer, and targeting signaling in aging.
USC School of Pharmacy doctoral students Jillian Romsdahl, 25, and Adriana Blachowicz, 26, were overjoyed to send Aspergillus nidulans to the International Space Station on April 8, 2016. They had worked on the Micro-10 experiment in collaboration with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory for the past two years.
